Session Summary

Thin-film silicon photovoltacis -fundamentals, technologies, and prospects-

Thin-film silicon solar cells based on amorphous and microcrystalline silicon materials are considered to play an important role in the large-scale power plant application because of their advantages over wafer-based crystalline silicon solar cells in terms of less material consumption and large area production.  For the further growth of the solar cells in the PV market, power generation costs must be lowered through improvements of conversion efficiency and manufacturing processes.  The tutorial will provide a background of the present state of thin-film silicon solar cells and their future prospects, with emphasis on the fundamentals of materials and devices, fabrication processes and the high-efficiency technologies.
